Colours of Mexico

Whether it be buildings, textiles, flowers, food, streetlife or markets, probably the first thing that always strikes visitors new to Mexico is the intoxicating assault on the senses....led by colour and followed by light. It is usually the dominant memory that is taken home; even more so if you happen to be an artist, writer or photographer... or like me just a mere dabbler......

These photographs were all taken recently in Patzcuaro, and even when you live here in Mexico it is almost impossible to become so hardened or blase to the colours that you fail to notice them any more.....

How can anyone fail to be inspired??? Or not wish to try their luck creatively or artistically???

Lovely, vibrant colours. Good eye!

I am just south of the border from you, in Belize, and the colours here are vibrant too, but in a very different way. Interesting, isnt how, how the Caribbean and central american influences are so different!?

I think you really captured what I love about Mexico, it's the vibrant sensuality of the place! You're exactly right, there's no way you can ignore scenes like this. I find it extremely inspiring.

Beautiful photos - I know exactly what you mean about the colours, it was one of the main things that stood out in my first visit, and is one of the reasons I am so excited about being there again in March!

Itinerant Londoner...yes the colours are impossible to ignore here...what is your itinerary for March 2009...just mexico city or other places?? Good luck with the travels!!

I'll be in Mexico for about 6 weeks as the first stop on my year going round the world. Will be starting in Mexico City, and was thinking of heading north from there (Queretaro, Guanajuato, Zacatecas and so on), up top Chihuahua and then from there down the Copper Canyon, and then back down from there somehow to Oaxaca before eventually crossing into Guatemala. Any other suggestions gratefully received!

Itinerant Londoner... sounds like some good choices on your itinerary..I would also suggest fitting in Real de catorce and Xilitla if you can.. plus I know a great central place to stay in central Mexico City if you want a recommendation and depending on your budget

ooo, I've never heard of Xilitla, it sounds lovely - thanks for the suggestion. I have heard of Real de Catorce, I thought it was a little off my main route and was wondering if it was worth the diversion - if you reckon it is I may have to add it on!

I'll be on quite a tight budget overall (especially as the slump in the Pound has massively hit my savings when converted to other currencies) - how much is your recommendation?

Itinerant Londoner...both places are a little bit off the beaten track and take a bit of time and effort to get to... so only fot them in if you have time...place to stay is 500 pesos per night (25pounds) in colonial house in dead centre of DF - greta location for exploring but you may well be on a hostelling budget...
