Raise the Red Lantern........

Every city has its Chinatown and Mexico City is no exception with Calle Dolores in the heart of the Centro Historico. Red chinese lanterns look quite beautiful against the rich ochres, russets, and dusky pinks of the colonial architecture in this part of town.....

All the streets in the Centro Historico specialise in selling one thing be it musical instruments, bicycles, gold jewellery, stationery or in the case of Calle Dolores every type of lighting and Chinese food....

Maybe that is why there are so many lanterns strung across this street, and as you can see I couldn't stop taking photographs of them, undecided about whether I liked them better in black and white or colour...

The pedestrianised street is lined wall to wall with Chinese restaurants all of which are pretty good and very reasonably priced along with a few Mexican cantinas....

So as the Year of the Tiger really gets underway, why not give Chinatown a whirl?? For more windows on the world this week check out My World Tuesday by clicking here...You won't be disappointed!

A China town in Mexico city! Moses! Only Athens, Greece, doesn't have one :-(

You know I like the red shots the best! I don't know if I'd try Chinese food in Mexico but I love the mix of cultures.

those lanterns are really ubiquitous everywhere. I also see them around our city's Chinatown.

Love those red lanterns! So colorful! Funny, I'd never thought of a Chinatown in Mexico, but then why would they be any different from us and other countries as well??? Anyway, I think it's cool and your photos are terrific as always! Have a great week, Catherine!

The lanterns make the everyday seem festive. Or perhaps it's your photo treatment of them. I love visiting Chinatowns, but am not sure that it would be my first choice in Mexico. At least not until I'd been there awhile, like you.

I tell you, these Chinese... They are everywhere... Even in my blood. Yes, you just reminded me that I ought to do a lot more about my ancestry that goes all the way back to Canton, China.

Why don't we have celebrations like this in our Chinatown in Havana? I feel jealous looking at your beautiful pictures. I especially liked that collage. Many thanks. Yes, you're right, every city has its Chinatown, but not all cities celebrate Chinese culture in the same way. C'mon, Havana! :-)

Greetings from London.
