Fernand Leger in France - Biot

They all came to the Riviera to draw inspiration for their art, leaving behind wonderful galleries of their work dotted all along the Cote D'Azur. One certainly worth visiting is the rather imposing Musee National Fernand Leger in Biot which was founded by his wife after his death in 1957, and opened in 1960.....

It contains a thorough overview of his work - his brushes with futurism and cubism, as well as his love of architecture, the cinema and the circus....His use of colour, shape, and design is quite unparalleled...

As well as paintings there are ceramics, mosaics, reliefs, and stained glass pieces, plus some very striking monochromatic works in stunning black and white....

When I visited recently there was a special exhibition of his works inspired by the circus - whimsical, fanciful, and thoroughly charming....

The boldness of the original designs and graphics create a strong impact on the viewer...Enjoy!!
