These shadow black hands reaching across the street to greet their neighbours in a tiny back alley in the Italian town of Cuneo intrigued me when I stayed there overnight on route to Turin. I have no idea of their origin or significance but they seem such a lovely gesture of neighbourliness - Does anyone know any more about these hands?? This blog used to be about living in Mexico City and travelling throughout Mexico, but I have now moved to the French Riviera, living in Nice and working in Monaco.....Can the simple life be found here?? I will try and find out....

Weekend Reflections 45 - Rome
Rome was very rainy when I visited recently - so when in Rome and it rains - take puddle shots and reflect on the ruins in the reflections instead. This was taken in the beautiful baroque gardens surrounding the Galleria Borghese. I had plenty of time to wander and take photographs, as despite buying a timed ticket for the gallery two months in advance for 11am, a simple notice posted outside translated as "Gallery closed for an important meeting - come back at 3pm!!" When in Rome...........

Mesmerised by Monti......Rome
Recently I spent a few days in Rome and became totally mesmerised by Monti the neighbourhood where I chose to stay at Casa Santa Sofia - a convent run as a hotel by nuns from an Ukrainian Order - the yellow building above in Piazza Madonna dei Monti...
The Piazza itself is a delightful place which attracts people throughout the day who settle on the steps of the fountain and surrounding benches to chat with friends, eat lunch, read a book, or simply hang out and chill....
The cobbled streets surrounding the Piazza are equally enchanting with a mixture of old established trattorias, hardware shops, delis and bakeries as well as newer bars, boutiques, and cafes.....
Only eight minutes walk from the central Ancient Ruins, it is a little oasis tucked behind the Colesseum, a world away from the throngs of tourists who crowd Rome throughout the year, whatever the season. The exquisite details of the architecture seen in the doorways and windows are eminently photogenic...
And there are plenty of bookshops to find that erudite literary work with which to settle on the steps of the fountain back in the Piazza dei Madonna and soak up the atmosphere.....Enjoy!!

Shadow Shot Sunday 206 - Monti, Rome
Where would you find this rather welcoming shadow writing??
In the absolutely charming neighbourhood of Monti in Rome where I recently stayed for five days in a convent - run by Ukrainian nuns as the delightful "hotel" Casa Santa Sofia......
The neighbourhood, which is tucked behind the Colesseum, is a delightful little oasis of cobbled streets and charming architecture peppered with a mixture of local shops, bakeries and trattorias as well as newer ateliers, boutiques, and bars....

Shadow Shot Sunday 205 - Rome
Where would you find this sequence of dramatic shadows??
At the Colosseum in Rome which never fails to disappoint in its spectacular grandeur - and with the sun finally coming out and blue skies returning after days of rain, it also becomes a photographer's paradise. My top tip?? Buy your ticket online in advance - I'm very glad I did as on a Monday morning in March there was a three hour queue to get in otherwise. Weekend Reflections 43 - Rome
When in Rome and it rains and rains and rains the only shots to take are puddle shots......
I quite like the combination of the grey cobbles and the misty reflections of the buildings....
