Brunching in Barceloneta......Barcelona

More fabulous February winter sunshine in the laid back beach suburb of Barceloneta in Barcelona - I stayed a few days extra after a course for work to soak up the cool vibes of this very appealing city. Sipping a glass of chilled white wine, savouring a plate of steamed mussels and paella, and sitting gazing at this gorgeous vista was the perfect way to end this visit before heading (a little sadly) to the airport. Still only a 50 minute direct flight from Nice (and cheap with either Vuelling or Easyjet) - I will be back - soon!!

Visiting Villefranche...........

Now is perhaps the best time to visit the beaches in the vicinity of Nice....before they are filled with the typical crowds thronging the Riviera. Visit Villefranche during these lovely clear and bright winter days and have the beach almost to yourself..........Perfect!!

Loitering in Leiden.....

Windmills, canals, bicycles, bridges, barges, crenellated 17th century architecture, reflections, streetlamps, cobbles, flat long vistas, dykes and dams - it could only be The Netherlands and indeed it is - the historic, picturesque town of Leiden located between The Hague and Amsterdam - formerly a textile town making woollen cloth and now a university town also popular with tourists. It even looks pretty on a grey, wintry bleak morning in January with an icy horizontal wind cutting like a knife.............
