Brain Power in Nice.... Ahead of the Game!!

Nice is usually well known for its stunning Baroque and Belle Epoque architecture, but here is a relative newcomer to the scene (2002), which strikes a contemporary pose in the heart of Nice. Unsurprisingly it is called "La Tete Carree" (The Square Head), but what may be more of a surprise, is that it is actually a functioning building, serving as the offices of the city's public library. Designed by Sacha Sosna, you can find this intriguing piece of architecture right near Mamac and the Promenade des Arts. Check out other corners of the globe this week by surfing the net - there are many other fantastic blogs out there....Enjoy!

I feel I should be impressed by this unusual piece of functional architecture, but it makes me want to giggle. Quebeckers refer to Anglos as les têtes carées, and not in a very affectionate or flattering manner--although without malice and with a good deal of humour.

Hey, you made it ! Welcome to France ! Bienvenue ! So, how is your French, anyway, I guess if you moved here you must be proficient ? Good to see you're connected again anyway, will look forward to your further adventures on the Riviera.

Monaco ? Pretty pricy real estate there, hope you'll be in good company... I like your shadows piece there a post back, can see you've already started exploring. There is a link in my sidebar to a blog by "French Girl in Seattle", who just did a few pieces about Nice... very tempting. A bientôt...

Wow, you're right, this doesn't look like my idea of Nice at all. It's a striking building that really looks unexpected against the lovely landscape.
