Shadow Shot Sunday 102 - Seattle

Art objects can produce some of the most beautiful shadows and end up being some of my favourite shots. These beautiful sculpted pieces of glass were on display at Vetri Glass in downtown Seattle; a city which has a strong tradition of glassblowing as an art form.

Many of you may recognise the signature statement in these pieces as belonging to one of the most famous artists in this field and local to this area, namely Dale Chihuly who has exhibited all over the world and is from Tacoma, Washington State. The sensuous curves, vivid colours, and shell like structures are often key features of his work.....

Another well known and much loved exhibitor of coloured glass and their beautiful shadows, is none other than our very own fellow blogger Sylvia Kirkwood who lives in Seattle, and who many of you visit regularly at Shadow Shot Sunday, My World Tuesday, and other parts of the blogosphere. Sylvia is famed for her warm, positive comments and loyal following of many of our blogs. I had the privilege to meet her last month when I travelled to Seattle as part of a West Coast train trip. Here we are having lunch together in Wallingford.....

Join me in wishing her all the very best of luck as she moves into her new home this week!! This post is for you, Sylvia - check out her blog with the amazing headers, plus all the other fabulous shadow shots that constitute the weekly meme Shadow Shot Sunday. You won't be disappointed!!

It was such a delight to meet and be able to spend some time with you while you were in Seattle! I do hope you make it to the West Coast again some day and we can do it again!! I was so busy admiring the glass, that I forgot to look at the shadows! Lovely to see you and Sylvia - and quite fitting, as I always love the coloured glass shadows that she regularly posts.

Bloggers meeting bloggers--what fun! All the best, Catherine, to you and Sylvia!

A SEEKER OF SHADOWS

A seeker of shadows, they say,
Will keep her eyes peeled night and day
For resident shades
That haunt the dark glades
And never come outside to play.

What a beautiful tribute to Slyvia! Yes, I agree with you-I don't know hos she manages to visit all of our blogs and comment so faithfully, but she does! How wonderful that you got to meet her in person and have lunch! And, what beautiful glass shots. Always a favorite in my 'shpere!

The intricate glass patterns are beautiful! The colors and shapes feel as if birds in flight are in the display case. Neat!

Meeting a fellow blogger is cool, they are as they write in person - nice!

How lucky you are to have met Sylvia! She must be such a joy in person.

And the glass is wonderful. I've never seen him do a figure like that baby in the first shot. Must be something new. Cool!

These pieces are unbelievably beautiful. What I love the most is the finish. There's an elegance, a finesse. Many thanks.

Greetings from London.

Oh, Catherine, I thought of Sylvia when I saw the first of your glass photos! How wonderful of you to dedicate this to her during her big move.
I'm not sure yet, but I'm thinking I might get to meet Sylvia this summer, if we decide to go to a baseball game when the Toronto Blue Jays are there.
I love your photos of glassware, and the Chihuly pieces are particularly wonderful.

The image of the babe is the glass dish is very fool the eye. I thought I was looking at a shell and its shadow. But, not. The reality is so much better. Really very very beautiful.

Oooo Catherine, you are so lucky to have met Sylvia! Our daughter lives in Seattle, so on my next visit need to meet up with our famous Miss Sylvia too. For some reason I pictured you with black hair...You're a blondie!! I did not know that Seattle was noted for it's blown glass. I learn so much through blogs. Thanks & happy SSS!

Chihuly had an exhibit at the Phoenix botanical garden last year that was outstanding...how did I forget he was from WA? Also, what train did you take? Very curious.
