Shadow Shot Sunday 103 - Seattle

The sun came out only once whilst I was in Seattle over Easter, and fortunately I was out walking in the Ballard neighbourhood, and had reached Chittendon Locks - a popular spot to stroll along the canal, through the lovely gardens, and watch all the boats going through the lock. This sculpture was right near the fish ladder where it is possible to view the salmon on their amazing journeys, and I am guessing that the silver curlicues are designed to evoke the flashing flick of the fishtails as they move upstream.....

Anyway, I liked the patterns this sculpture created, and of course I am sure you will also like the other photographs displayed as part of Shadow Shot Sunday....Enjoy!

Perfect shadow shots for the day, Catherine! I love them! So glad you got to see so many of the good things in Seattle!! I had so wished I still had my car so we could have explored together! Have a great weekend!

Those shadows really do add another dimension to the sculptures. The "maritimer" in me (as opposed to the west coaster) sees those shapes as fiddlehead ferns...yummy treats, though an acquired taste.

I visited the locks on a not-too-sunny day a year ago. It looks like you were blessed with sunshine--and shadows--the day of your visit!

I HAD A LITTLE SHADOW
(With apologies to Mother Goose)

I had a little shadow
No bigger than my thumb;
I took him to the meadow
And there I gave him rum.

My drunken little shadow
Did weave and bob and pitch;
He stumbled from the meadow
And fell into a ditch!

Nice!!

So you did the beautiful West Coast by train! That must be a wonderful experience! (In September I will make a long train trip, the Transsiberian!)

The shadows look like musical notes on the sidewalk. The abstract style of these are almost whimsical, and nicely shaped in subject and shadow. Wonderfully captured!

Wow, Seattle certainly supplied you with excellent Shadow Shot candidates in these curlicues, Catherine. I've never seen them before. Will have to look next time we're out that way.
I know you'll enjoy the rest of your time in Mexico, but not without wistfulness, I'm sure. Wishing you all the best.

LOVELY! I am always interested in seeing what other cities and municipalities do by way of public art. This is wonderful and nice to have the added bonus of shadows!

What interesting shadows these sculptures produce...I'm heading to the hen yard to see what my girls are up to...that's as far away from home as I get these days...have a good one, hope you find some sun!!!

There is a variety of fern which grows like that, starting tightly coiled, then un-rolling...
