Shadow Shot Sunday 105 - Durango

Here are some bold stripes in a secluded courtyard in the town of Durango, way up North in the desert and best known for its film set location where so many Westerns have been filmed in the sharp desert light and landscapes. The town of Durango itself, however, is far from being a frontier Wild West town.... There is a beautiful zocalo with an impressive cathedral, many churches, colonial buildings and a grand railway station....

Inside some of these colonial buildings such as the Government Palace, striking murals adorn the courtyard walls....

In addition to the cultural and architectural attractions, check out what attracted all the filmakers, that wonderful blue, blue sky, and sharp, crystal-clear desert light....

After drinking in all this blue, I will leave you with a few more shadow shots from around the town...

And a final few more of those opening bold stripes....

For more shadow shots from around the world, check out Shadow Shot Sunday by clicking here. Enjoy!!

Those bold black stripes of shadow agains the red wall are particularly striking, especially with the organic contrast of the green leaves. And those skies! Could a sky be any bluer than that?

Beautiful post. We were going to drive from Mazatlan through Durango to Zacatecas a couple of years ago but were persuaded not to take our old motor home on the road. I think there's a new road from the coast now so maybe next time we're in the area we'll make it up there. I had no idea it was such a Colonial city.

The city os beautiful - the stucco siding over the classic shapes are wonderful. The artistry of the murals are a treat as we visit downtown - it adds life! Pastels and arches give us the classic look that defines this desert city!

Gorgeous photos, Catherine.
If you just go out to take beautiful photos in Monaco, and ignore the "wild life" you can probably keep things simple. LOL

Thank you for the photos, Catherine, since I'll probably never visit Durango. I hear it is one of Mexico's unsafe cities because of the drug wars. How sad.

MY BLINGLESS SHADOW

A shadow’s an odd sort of thing;
It might have a nose or a wing,
A tail like a dog,
A bump like a log,
But one thing it has not is bling!
